I have been a Senior Lecturer in the Conservatorium of Music at the University of Waikato for about 12 years now. Over this time, I think I have learned a few things about what is important in teaching music to university students. Interestingly, I have come to realise that although composition technique, harmony and counterpoint etc are vitally important, it seems more and more clear to me that having a broad knowledge of philosophy, aesthetics and an inquiring mind are perhaps more vital ingredients in guiding musicians.
In this, the teaching section of my my website will be divided into two main areas and these are: 1. technique and 2. philosophy.
From here on, I will post videos, links, book recommendations and harmony and counterpoint tutorials.
